Quinceton College’s Zeta fraternity stages a lively revue, featuring members in drag, turning heads and stirring campus chatter. The unexpected publicity catches the eye of Hap Holden, a newspaper man, and Virginia Collinge, who see an opportunity to shake up the campus image. They enlist Virginia’s aunt, Aunt Matilda Collinge, the president of the floundering Mar Brynn, to mount a bold publicity stunt: a contest that will award a dozen free scholarships to “unusual girls” — winners of pageants for fruits, vegetables, and flowers — and set them to perform in a musical during the Fall Festival.
