Spoilers ahead
The film centers on a bitter feud between two brothers who inherit the family newspaper, Malayalam Shabdam, run by the Ezhuthupura Tharavadu. Appu, Devan, and Ravi Varma, Mohanlal, are the lead writers and publishers whose different temperaments shape the paper’s destiny. Appu embodies a clinical, growth-driven mindset, steering the business side of the newspaper with sharp efficiency, while Ravi Varma—often called Aniyankuttan—brings a deeply emotional, literary devotion to the craft, believing that writing carries history, tradition, and the sacred weight of their family’s legacy. Their world is steeped in the memories of a distinguished literary lineage, from their poetess grandmother Vishwalakshmi Thampuratti to their editor father, K. K. Menon Gopi, and their writer cousin, Sudarshana, Revathi, who joins this tangled web of loyalties and ambitions.
