Spider-Punk Animated Film Confirmed by Star Daniel Kaluuya

Daniel Kaluuya has officially announced that a feature film focusing on his Spider-Punk character from the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse series is in active development. In an interview with Deadline, the actor revealed he is co-writing the script with Ajon Singh, which is reportedly in its final stages. This project marks the first spin-off dedicated to a supporting character within the acclaimed animated franchise.

Separately, the sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which was previously removed from Sony’s release schedule, has been dated for June 18, 2027. The film’s development faced challenges, including reports of production difficulties that producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller disputed, but voice recording is now set to resume.

The Spider-Punk Spin-Off

Kaluuya’s character, Hobart “Hobie” Brown, also known as Spider-Punk, was a standout addition in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. By the film’s conclusion, he joins a group of rebel Spider-people supporting Miles Morales. While Kaluuya did not reveal how the spin-off connects to the larger Spider-Verse narrative, he expressed deep inspiration from the original films and their creative teams.

Kaluuya stated, “Those Spider-Verse films, they speak to me. I was so inspired by them. I think the filmmakers and the animators are some of the best storytellers in the game.” Spider-Punk is also confirmed to appear in the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Beyond the Spider-Verse Release Update

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will conclude the story that began with the 2018 film. The voice cast set to return includes:
