In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ulrich, who portrayed the original killer Billy Loomis, revealed the franchise’s initial trajectory. The plan for his character’s return in the recent sequels was part of a larger design to slowly turn his on-screen daughter, Sam Carpenter (played by Melissa Barrera), into a killer. This arc would have concluded in ‘Scream 7,’ mirroring her father’s villainous path. As Ulrich stated, “When we talked about coming back for 5, it was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter into the killer. The project was upended when Spyglass Media Group fired Melissa Barrera following her social media posts concerning Palestine. This was compounded by co-star Jenna Ortega’s decision to exit the project and director Christopher Landon’s subsequent departure.
