Pegg was born in Brockworth, Gloucestershire as Simon John Beckingham. His parents were Gillian Rosemary, a former civil servant, and John Henry Beckingham, a jazz musician and keyboard salesman. He adopted his stepfather’s surname 'Pegg' after his mother remarried post her divorce when Pegg was seven. He eventually moved into comedic acting with a line-up of significant roles in films and TV series. This includes his roles in Big Train, Band of Brothers, Black Books, and Guest House Paradiso amongst others. Pegg's character in Star Trek and Star Wars, and his voice over for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and the sequel 'Collision Course' gained immense popularity, etching his name in the stardom. Pegg has also been a vocal supporter of feminist campaigns like 'HeForShe', made his stance clear on societal inequality, and worked actively with Greenpeace to fight overfishing.
