Michael John Myers (born May 25, 1963) is a Canadian actor, comedian, and filmmaker, known for his extensive and acclaimed body of comedic work. He made several appearances on Canadian TV followed by six seasons on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from 1989 to 1995. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. He is popular for playing roles in Wayne's World (1992–1993), Austin Powers (1997–2002), and Shrek (2001–present). He also appeared in the film adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat in 2003. Despite acting sporadically in the 2010s, he had notable roles in films like Terminal and Bohemian Rhapsody (both 2018). He made his directorial debut in 2013 with Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon and later created and starred in the 2022 Netflix original series, The Pentaverate.
In his early life, Myers was born to British immigrant parents from Liverpool who were both World War II veterans. He started performing in commercials at the age of two and later made appearances on TV series and commercials. After high school, he joined The Second City Canadian touring company and later founded The Comedy Store Players in London. He eventually returned to Toronto and The Second City in 1986. After a successful stint on Saturday Night Live, Myers made his film debut in Wayne's World (1992). Despite a short hiatus, he returned with the Austin Powers series and voiced for Shrek in the animated film series. He has also appeared in Britney Spears' music video and published a book, Canada, a memoir reflecting on his native country's history and popular culture.
