Matthew Raymond Dillon, also known as Matt Dillon, born February 18, 1964, is a renowned American actor. He made his feature film debut in Over the Edge (1979) and quickly established himself as a teen idol through films such as My Bodyguard (1980), Little Darlings (1980), Liar's Moon (1982), and The Flamingo Kid (1984). It was his performances in three of five S. E. Hinton book adaptations that truly marked his presence in Hollywood: Tex (1982), Rumble Fish (1983), and The Outsiders (1983). By the late 1980s, Dillon had carved out a career in Hollywood starring in films like Drugstore Cowboy (1989) and Singles (1992), earning the praise of movie critic Roger Ebert, who referred to him as the best actor within his age group.

In 2002, Dillon made his directing debut with City of Ghosts and has continued to act in important films including Factotum (2005), The House That Jack Built (2018), and Asteroid City (2023). For his performance in Crash (2004), he went on to win an Independent Spirit Award and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He had earlier been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for his narration of Jack Kerouac's On the Road. He also took a dip into television, starring in the first season of the FOX television series Wayward Pines (2015), which earned him a Saturn Award nomination.
