Luna Maya

Luna Maya (born Luna Maya Sugeng on 26 August 1983) is an Indonesian actress, model, presenter, singer and businesswoman whose multifaceted career has made her one of the most recognizable faces in Southeast Asian entertainment. Starting her professional journey in 1999, she first gained attention as an advertising and catwalk model, appearing in high‑profile campaigns for brands such as Lux, XL Axiata and Toshiba, and quickly became a regular feature on Indonesian magazine covers. Her transition to acting was marked by a memorable supporting antagonist role in the 2004 romance film 30 Hari Mencari Cinta, which earned critical praise and opened the door to further cinematic opportunities, including the 2005 comedy Brownies and the drama Ruang, for which she received a Citra Award nomination for Best Leading Actress at the 2006 Indonesian Film Festival. Throughout the late 2000s, Luna expanded her repertoire by starring in a variety of genres— from the horror‑thriller In the Name of Love (2008) to the musical collaboration on the Euro 2008 anthem “Play” alongside Dewi Sandra and Sandra Dewi. Her television work includes popular soap operas such as Dan, Kau Dan Aku, Ada Cinta, Rahasiaku and Anggun, and she later served as a torchbearer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, underscoring her national prominence. In addition to acting, Luna pursued a music career, releasing the studio album Perjalanan in 2011 and collaborating with artists like Dide Hijau Daun on the track “Suara (Ku Berharap)”. She demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit by directing indie short films such as Suci and The City, producing music videos for Dhea Ananda, and launching her own brand initiatives. From 2020 to 2023 she hosted and judged Indonesia’s Next Top Model, further cementing her status as a fashion authority. More recently, she gained international recognition for reviving the iconic Indonesian horror archetype of the sundel bolong in the “Suzzanna New Generation” trilogy (2018‑2023). Despite a highly publicized scandal in 2010 involving a leaked video, Luna maintained her career resilience, continuing to secure endorsements and award nominations while serving as an ambassador for causes such as WWF Indonesia and the United Nations World Food Programme. Married to French‑Indonesian businessman Maxime Bouttier in 2025, Luna Maya remains an influential cultural figure whose artistic versatility and business acumen continue to shape Indonesia’s entertainment landscape.
