Lena Maria Jonna Olin, a Swedish actress, made her screen debut with a small role in the film Face to Face (1976) under famed filmmaker Ingmar Bergman's mentorship. She earned widespread recognition after performing as a free-spirited artist in the movie The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988), for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination. One of her most acclaimed performances was in the film Enemies, A Love Story (1989), where she played a traumatized Holocaust survivor. The role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Olin was also recognized for her portrayal of an abused wife in Chocolat (2000), which bagged her a BAFTA Award nomination. Other notable film credits include Romeo Is Bleeding (1993), The Ninth Gate (1999), and The Artist's Wife (2019).
Olin brought her talent to television as well, starring as KGB agent Irina Derevko in the spy thriller Alias (2002–2006). Her performance earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She also appeared in the sitcom Welcome to Sweden (2014–2015), and the drama series Riviera (2017–2020) and Hunters (2020–2023). Before her acting career, she worked as a substitute teacher and a hospital nurse. Olin was crowned Miss Scandinavia in 1974 when she was 19, marking another achievement in her diverse career.
