Versus 2000

There are 666 portals on Earth that connect it to Hell, and the constant chase for darkness drives many to seek out these gateways. Among them, the 444th portal in Japan is said to be hidden in a remote place called The Forest of Resurrection, a setting where legends speak of power, fate, and the endless cycle between life and death.

In 10th century Japan, a lone samurai fights off a horde of zombie-like samurai and seems to have little chance against the eerie onslaught. After he triumphs, a mysterious priest and his league of warriors appear, turning the balance of power in an instant. The samurai charges to strike the priest, but the onslaught overwhelms him, and he falls. As he dies, he glimpses a potential ally lurking behind him, arriving just too late to change the outcome.

In present-day Japan, the story pivots to a tense forest escape. Two prisoners slip away from captivity and run into a gang of Yakuzas. Among them is a young woman the gang has abducted, and this interruption unsettles Prisoner KSC2-303 Tak Sakaguchi, who begins to sense that the group’s plans involve something far darker than a simple kidnapping. After a fevered confrontation, KSC2-303 kills one of the Yakuza members, a death that triggers an unsettling resurrection—the slain man returns as a zombie. The chaos forces KSC2-303 to flee back into the forest, now followed by The Girl Chieko Misaka.

Disobeying orders to wait, the Yakuza press the pursuit, closing the distance between hunter and quarry. The two fugitives encounter a crucified corpse hanging from a tree and, in a desperate move, KSC2-303 steals the dead man’s clothes to slip past a hostile Yakuza. A brutal clash erupts as the corpses of all the men they have killed and buried in the forest rise again to attack the living. Realizing they’re outmatched, KSC2-303 and The Girl are forced to team up with the zombie horde to survive the onslaught.

As the danger escalates, the Yakuza summon three assassins to shore up their defense. The Yakuza leader, The Man Hideo Sakaki, arrives and confronts the crisis with a mix of anger and cunning, determined to reclaim the missing pair. The Man’s force initially gains the upper hand, transforming the assassins and Yakuza into his own followers. Two assassins manage to escape, while one is felled by The Girl with a log, and the other is slain by The Man, underscoring the brutal hierarchy at work.

KSC2-303 presses The Girl to reveal what she might know about the unfolding events, convinced she holds hidden secrets. Before she can speak, The Man locates them, revealing a shocking truth: they are reincarnations of past lives. He intends to use The Girl as a sacrificed key to open the portal within The Forest of Resurrection and seize the power of darkness. Doubt gnaws at KSC2-303, and he lunges at The Man, only to fall in battle and die.

The next morning, a revived KSC2-303 confronts The Man and his minions. He fights them off one by one, leaving only The Man standing as the final opponent. With decisive resolve, KSC2-303 decapitates The Man and frees The Girl, and the two flee from the haunted forest, escaping into the dawn of a new fate.

Ninety-nine years pass, and Earth lies in ruin. The reincarnation of The Man moves through a shattered city, confronting KSC2-303 and the now-reincarnated followers of The Man’s original gang who now serve KSC2-303. The Girl is held captive, insisting she should have aligned with him years ago. With nothing left to destroy in this ruined world, KSC2-303 asks The Man to take him to Hell, and the two charge toward each other in a final, fateful clash that echoes across time and eternity.
