Vel Suriya and Vasu Suriya are twins raised in dramatically different worlds after a fateful incident on a journey between Madurai and Chennai. Thiyagarajan and Sharadha, their parents, lose one child when a beggar steals the baby for the gold chain and abandons him at the door of a wealthy feudal landlord. That child grows up under a gilded roof and becomes Vel, the darling of Appatha Lakshmi, the family head who showered him with affection. The other twin, Vasu, grows up with a completely different rhythm as a cheerful private detective who wears a constant smile and falls in love with a television presenter, Swathi Asin Thottumkal.

The film follows these parallel paths, each brother navigating life with his own set of loyalties and battles. A dramatic rescue occurs when a bomb scare linked to Sakkara Pandi threatens Vel’s world: Vasu, while in a bus, narrowly escapes as Vel’s family fights to protect him, and the truth about Vel’s adoption is revealed with Appatha’s tearful heartbreak. Kuzhandaisami, a helpful ally and the son of Muthupandi, who was Vel’s foster father’s younger brother, introduces Vasu to the backstory that explains Sakkara Pandi’s vendetta: years earlier, Vel’s grandfather Velupandi stood up to Sakkara Pandi by closing his factories and incarcerating him for three years. When Sakkara Pandi was released, he retaliated by poisoning Rajapandi and Sivagami during their journey home, a crime that drove the family to hold fast to Appatha’s home-cooked meals and solidify their bond. This history explains why Vel’s family clings so tightly to each other—and to Appatha’s nourishment—as a shield against danger.

Vasu realizes that sending Vel away to Chennai would be exceptionally painful for everyone who loves him. He proposes that Vel stay, while he himself returns to Chennai to face the truth of his own parents and to help devise a plan to counter Sakkara Pandi’s might. Moorthy [Charle], a friend of Vasu, and Swathi’s circle secretly assist Vel in maintaining his double life, with Moorthy helping him carry the ruse and keep the family safe.

With the truth partially uncovered, Vel’s embrace of his family becomes a moral fulcrum for the story. The plot thickens as Sakkara Pandi escalates his attacks by planting bombs across the village and threatening to murder Vel’s loved ones. Vel and Vasu join forces to thwart the danger, and the family—who had once scolded Vasu for daring to stand in Vel’s life—begins to see the good heart beneath the ruse. The antagonist plans to execute one final, indiscriminate act of violence with a buried bomb in the crowd, but Vel outsmarts him, cutting off Sakkara Pandi’s escape route and pushing him toward his own explosive fate. The cat-and-mouse dynamic shifts as the bombs are neutralized, the villain is killed in the resulting explosion, and the village returns to safety. The family’s stability is once again tested when Appatha must choose between protecting Vel as family or allowing Vasu to stay and cope with his own truth. She ultimately grants Vel permission to remain, but the moment is bittersweet as the family pleads for Vel to stay in a life that is not theirs by blood.

In the end, the emotional climax arrives when Vel is confronted with the choice of leaving the only home he has ever known.
