The Seven of Daran: Battle of Pareo Rock 2008

Jimmy Westwood Johann Harmse is an 11-year-old boy living in South Africa with his mother Caroline Goodall. In the bustling city, a young girl from the Saladir tribe, Charita Kertrice Maitisa, works by cleaning car windows on the streets. One day Charita cleans the windows of Jimmy and his mother’s car without asking for payment, and soon after she takes Jimmy’s wallet. Jimmy pursues her through a crowded market where an odd sight catches his eye—a small white giraffe being sold at auction. The giraffe can talk, and it speaks of a looming war between two tribes, the Bombattas and the Saladir, tasking Jimmy with preventing the conflict. It also lends Jimmy a magical pendant that glows with purpose.

Jimmy frees the giraffe, and he and Charita run away together, pursued by the giraffe’s owner who has yet to receive the animal. They are eventually caught and jailed by the police, but Charita returns the wallet to Jimmy, keeping back money meant for the car wash. Their uneasy alliance deepens into friendship as Jimmy is released when his mother comes to collect him. The maid’s mother reveals to Jimmy that the giraffe is one of the “seven of Daran,” magical creatures that guard each continent. This revelation convinces him that the giraffe’s warning might be real, and he makes a bold decision. He leaves a note for his mother announcing he’s going on a mission and frees Charita from the police cell. Together, they head toward the war-torn region to fulfill the giraffe’s charge and prevent the coming bloodshed.

A dramatic turn comes when a child soldier from the Bombatta tribe shoots Jimmy in the leg. Despite the injury and the tension between the tribes, the three children—the boy, Charita, and the young fighter—form an unlikely friendship. Their pursuit is interrupted when the giraffe’s owner captures them and forces them into a car, pushing them to continue the search for the elusive magical creatures. Jimmy’s mother, having learned where her son has gone, arrives by helicopter to intervene. She sees Jimmy in the car, and the pilot attacks, freeing the three children.

In a pivotal moment, Jimmy learns from Caroline Goodall that her own actions have contributed to tribal hostility—she had intended to build a golf course on sacred land, a plan that would profit one group while desecrating another. This revelation fuels Jimmy’s resolve but also complicates a direct confrontation. His mother initially forbids him from continuing the mission; however, the trio secretly boards the helicopter, and Jimmy, who has learned to fly in a flight-sim game, takes the controls. They reach the war zone just as the confrontation escalates, and the mother joins them later in the chaos. A bullet strikes Jimmy, but the pendant absorbs the impact, sparing him. In the aftermath, his mother agrees to drop the golf course plan, and the two communities begin to reconcile, choosing peace over further conflict.

This story blends adventure with a message of reconciliation, showing how courage, friendship, and an unexpected alliance can steer a divided land toward harmony.
