The Revenge of Ivanhoe 1965

A disguised knight rescues a wounded prisoner held by Cedric of Hastings’ men, and the two escape into a raging thunderstorm. As the storm rages, the knight hides the prisoner while he goes for help, but when he returns he learns that the prisoner has vanished into the hands of a band of Saxon outlaws led by Lockheel [Glauco Onorato]. Ethelbald, a hermit who is allied with the outlaws, guides the knight to their camp, where a tense truth starts to unfold.

The outlaw camp holds a prisoner whose return reveals a painful truth: Rowena is the sister of Arthur, who claims that Rowena is being held by Cedric and was on her way to mount a rescue. The political pressure behind Rowena’s fate grows clearer as Cedric schemes to marry her off to Sir Brian Godwald, hoping to claim a third of her dowry while King John keeps the other two-thirds for himself. The next morning, Cedric reveals to Rowena that her brother is imprisoned in the dungeon, and vows to continue his torture unless she agrees to marry Brian. The wedding day twists into a violent escape plan. On their way to the ceremony, Brian is seized by the outlaws and brought to Ivanhoe, who convinces him that Rowena’s consent was coerced. Brian agrees not to proceed with the marriage, and Ivanhoe, masquerading as Brian, moves to the castle to make contact with Rowena. She recognizes him, but she keeps up the pretense in public while the two men work toward a clandestine rescue. That night, Ivanhoe visits Rowena in her room as Ethlebald frees Arthur, who rouses the villagers to join the assault, guiding them through a secret passage that leads into the castle’s inner workings.

When the signal is given, the assault erupts. The villagers, aided by the outlaw contingents, flood the castle and overpower Cedric’s guards. In single combat, Ivanhoe kills Bertrand, and Cedric’s strength fades as his fortress falls around him. The battle winds down, and a messenger from King John arrives to deliver a sweeping proclamation: the era of feudalism in England is ending.
