Lincoln Loud, Asher Bishop the middle child and only son of Lynn Loud Sr and Rita Loud, spends his days helping his sisters—Lori, Catherine Taber; Leni, Liliana Mumy; Luna, Nika Futterman; Luan, Cristina Pucelli; Lynn Jr., Lucy, Lana, Lola, and Lisa—and also teaching his youngest sister Lily how to cope with life in a big family. After a particularly successful day when the sisters win awards, they celebrate at Lynn’s Table, where the crowd showers the sisters with praise while Lincoln feels pushed to the side, almost invisible in their glow. He confides in his best friend, Clyde McBride, Andre Robinson, who reminds him that every family member has a score to settle and reveals a long-ignored strand of his own family history that stretches to Paris.

Motivated by Clyde’s tale, Lincoln asks his parents about their own roots, and Lisa manages to trace Lynn Sr.’s heritage all the way to Scotland. In the Scottish town of Loch Loud, a place pulsing with peculiarity, the clan meets a charming local boy named Scott, Billy Boyd, whom Leni Liliana Mumy instantly adores. The locals whisper that the Louds are descended from Scottish royalty, and the family is quickly drawn into a royal mystery: a grand castle, a gruff groundskeeper named Angus, David Tennant and the stern caretaker Morag, Michelle Gomez, who guard the town’s long-hidden past. A paintings-and-patriotism reveal soon follows—an ancestral portrait that eerily resembles each Loud sibling, suggesting they ruled Loch Loud for generations before vanishing into the mists of history. Lincoln learns, with growing delight, that his own ancestral counterpart—the Duke of the family—was considered uniquely special.

Driven by a longing to prove himself, Lincoln throws himself into a string of community-service efforts designed to resurrect Loch Loud’s former glory. His conviction fuels a plan to make Scotland their permanent home, convinced that they no longer need to share a single bathroom—and perhaps more importantly, that he could step into the Duke’s shoes. The family embraces the castle life with a mix of wonder and trepidation, exploring ancient rooms and meeting spirits of the past, including the ghost of an ancestor, Lucille Loud. They also encounter Lela, a baby dragon who grows astonishingly fast every time she eats, a fact that both awes and alarms Morag.

Morag’s patience wears thin as days drift by in quiet, peaceful routine, so she hatches a plan to force the Louds to leave Loch Loud forever. She seeks to seize power by hypnotizing Lela with a magical Dragon Stone and the royal scepter, aiming to turn the town against the Louds and claim the title of duchess for herself. Her scheme is cunning: she manipulates Lincoln into riding Lela, hoping to spark a disaster that would make him the town’s scapegoat and finally clear the path to Morag’s dominion.

Lucille warns the Louds of Morag’s scheme, and the family rows back to Loch Loud to confront the danger. A climactic battle unfolds as they reclaim the scepter and, with Lily’s help, Lincoln channels his growing magical skills to shatter the Dragon Stone, freeing Lela from Morag’s hypnotic hold. In a final twist, Lela’s awakening breaks Morag’s grip on the town, and Morag is left stranded on an island of noisy seals, her bid for power abruptly ended. The townspeople celebrate, and Loch Loud honors Lincoln with the option to take the crown, but he declines, choosing instead to offer the crown to Angus, whose love for the town runs deepest. The grateful villagers and the lingering ghosts of Loud ancestors approve, while Lincoln admits that he sometimes wishes to be “special” like his sisters, only to be reminded by them that he is special simply for the care he gives to his family.

With the mystery settled and Loch Loud restored, the Louds repair what’s been damaged and sail home to Royal Woods. Lori’s love story with Bobby Santiago Jr., Carlos PenaVega, takes an ironic turn as Bobby arrives only to discover she has left; Clyde McBride greets Lincoln back home with a tray of duke-themed cream puffs, offering a light-hearted capstone to a family adventure that blended history, magic, and heart. During the credits, still images hint at the adventures that could have been—though the Louds know that real magic lies in family, belonging, and the courage to be yourself, wherever you go.
