Mari Collingwood is excited to celebrate her 17th birthday by heading into the city for a concert with her friend Phyllis Stone. Their parents, Estelle and John, express some worry about the friendship but ultimately trust their daughter and give her a protective keepsake—a peace symbol necklace—to wear on the night out. The day unfolds with a sense of anticipation as the two girls set off, hoping for a memorable evening.

As they travel, a disturbing news report breaks about a prison escape led by a cadre of dangerous criminals: Krug Stillo, a sadistic predator; his heroin-addicted son, Junior; Sadie, a ruthless psychopath; and Fred “Weasel” Podowski, a known sex offender and murderer. The feeling that danger could follow them into the city lingers, casting a shadow over the trip. Before they reach the concert, the girls inadvertently cross paths with Junior, who lures them to an apartment and traps them there, turning a night of celebration into a nightmare.

Inside the tense, violent environment, Phyllis attempts to escape and reason with the captors, but her efforts are ultimately overwhelmed. The stakes rise quickly as the two girls are restrained and held in grave danger. In the days that follow, Mari and Phyllis are moved into the trunk of Krug’s car and driven into the woods, where the quiet of the landscape belies the brutality they face. Phyllis is forced into humiliating acts and repeatedly terrorized, while Mari clings to hope and survival.

Phyllis uses a moment of distraction to allow Mari to slip away, but she is pursued by Sadie and Weasel, with Junior left to guard Mari. In a desperate bid to earn a promise of safety, Mari offers Junior her peace symbol necklace and refers to him softly as “Willow,” attempting to humanize him even as the danger grows. The pursuit ends tragically for Phyllis when she stumbles upon a cemetery and is brutally killed. Mari’s resolve becomes a focused, dangerous path to escape that is cut short when Krug blocks her attempt to flee, commits a grave act of violence, and finally shoots Mari as she makes her way to safety.

The film then returns to the Collingwoods’ home, where the criminals, disguised as traveling salesmen, quietly stay the night. The parents discover disturbing signs—photos of Mari, the necklace on Junior, and blood-stained clothing in their luggage—that reveal the truth about what happened to their daughter. The realization of loss sets Estelle and John on a quest for vengeance, a resolve that will push them toward a violent confrontation with the criminals.

What follows is a brutal reckoning. Estelle manipulates Weasel as part of a plan to bring him to ruin, inflicting a fatal injury and leaving him to bleed out. John weaponizes the moment, shooting at Krug and Sadie in a bid to end the threat. Krug turns the confrontation on his pursuers, overpowering John and coercing Junior into a devastating, coercive outcome. Krug’s attempted escape encounters a lethal obstacle—a trap that brings his flight to a shocking halt. Sadie, terrified and desperate, flees outside, while Estelle confronts the remaining danger within the family’s home. A violent struggle leads to Sadie’s death in the pool, and the sequence closes with the sheriff arriving just as John delivers the final, fatal blow to Krug with a chainsaw, bringing a disturbing cycle of violence to a chilling close.

The narrative unfolds as a harrowing descent from a night of ordinary expectations into a day of unthinkable violence, and the aftermath follows a family’s unwavering drive to confront the consequences and seek retribution in the wake of incomprehensible loss.
