Juno Kozani, Susan Strasberg, an American archaeology student, travels to Cyprus and stays with the family of her father’s best friend, Joseph Fürst as Dr Andros. In 1957, she witnesses an attack by two EOKA gunmen that results in the deaths of two British soldiers, but cannot identify the killers to the local British intelligence officer, Dirk Bogarde as Major McGuire. Juno soon learns that the fugitive EOKA General Skyros, Grégoire Aslan as Skyros, is hiding in the house, and that Dr Andros has collaborated with the EOKA. Haghios, George Chakiris as Haghios, wants to kill Juno, in part because of her growing romance with McGuire. Haghios arranges an ambush to kill Juno, but she is saved by Emile, Dr Andros’ son, who is mortally wounded. Juno escapes and is rescued by McGuire, who brings her to his apartment. Haghios leads an attack on McGuire’s apartment, which is unsuccessful, in part because of help from Baker, Denholm Elliott as Baker, a British intelligence officer who had an affair with McGuire’s wife. Juno flies to Athens and realises that Haghios is on the plane. On arrival, Haghios tries to kill her again, mortally wounding Baker, but is shot dead by McGuire. Juno is reunited with McGuire.
