Hong Kong’s mighty stock market serves as both magnet and stage for those who would bend it to their will. In the city’s Commercial Crime Bureau, an undercover operation closes in on Feng Hua International, a trading company linked to a man nicknamed “Boss.” The surveillance team is led by Inspector Leung, joined by Gene Yeung Louis Koo and Max Lam Daniel Wu, who plant listening devices to monitor the company’s communications. Gene Yeung Louis Koo is a devoted family man—his wife Yeung Ling, a daughter, and a son in fragile health demand his attention—while Max Lam Daniel Wu is a bright, ambitious newcomer who is about to marry the daughter of a wealthy man. Leung is a calm, seasoned officer involved with Mandy Yam Zhang Jingchu, who happens to be the wife of his friend Lee Alex Fong-Chung-Sun.
One night, the trio overhears a plan: the stock price will surge at market opening the next day. Seizing the opportunity, Gene Yeung Louis Koo asks Max Lam Daniel Wu to erase the incriminating portion so they can profit, and Lam opens a stock account. Leung discovers the deception, but Lam has already invested on a heavy loan. The stock climbs, but trading is halted due to unusual activity.
Back at the operation center, they overhear a scheme to murder the manager with a covertly planted device. Reporting it would expose them, so Lam pleads with Leung not to intervene. After weighing the risk, Leung opts to stop the murder themselves. They ambush the would-be killer as he administers pills to fake a death scene. The manager’s girlfriend glimpses Leung’s face, and later her call to the Boss’s men sets off a deadly chain. With their shares worth about $15 million liquidated, the trio becomes a target. The Boss’s henchmen close in, orchestrating the deaths of Leung, Lam, and Yeung, along with their families. In a final, brutal moment, Wah, the Boss’s subordinate, appears to execute Leung in an unmarked grave.
A year passes, and at a charity function, the Boss’s shadowy dealings flash across a video screen. Surrounded by police and ICAC officials, the Boss is halted as the feed reveals his crimes. It turns out Leung had bribed Wah, offering the entire $15 million in exchange for not killing him before his “execution.” Wah becomes Leung’s covert asset, aiding in bringing down the Boss. Under police escort, a van carrying the Boss veers off course, and the driver is revealed to be Gene Yeung Louis Koo, the sole survivor of the earlier ambush. Yeung drives the Boss into the harbor on a murder‑suicide, while Inspector Leung calmly watches, remembering the times he shared with his two loyal subordinates, Max Lam Daniel Wu and Gene Yeung Louis Koo. The film closes on a somber note, with the toll of ambition and loyalty etched in memory.

Overhearing the stock manipulation plan
During monitoring, Yeung and Lam overhear that the stock price will surge at market open. Yeung pressures Lam to delete the portion of the recording so they can profit from the tip. The trio continues the operation, while tension over exploiting the information grows.
Lam trades on the tip
Lam opens a stock brokerage account using a deep loan to exploit the tip. Leung discovers Lam's unapproved trading activities and cautions about the risk of exposure. The plan to profit quietly moves forward as the stock begins to react.
Stock surge and trading suspension
The stock price surges quickly, but trading is suspended due to unusual activity. The team realizes the move could blow their cover and attract scrutiny. They watch the market with a mix of relief and anxiety as profits loom and danger grows.
Plot to murder via unofficial device
Back in the operation center, they overhear a separate plot to murder the Feng Hua manager using an unofficial listening device. They understand that reporting it would expose them and jeopardize their futures. The knowledge creates a new moral and strategic dilemma.
Leung decides to intervene directly
Lam begs Leung not to report the murder plot. After weighing his options, Leung decides to stop the murder himself rather than alert the authorities. The choice sets the trio on a dangerous path that tests their loyalties.
Ambush to prevent the fake death
The trio ambushes the would-be killer as he forces pills into the unconscious manager to fake a death scene. Leung's face is briefly seen by the manager's girlfriend, planting suspicion that will come back later. The operation spirals toward peril and exposure.
Betrayal, profit, and a tip to Boss
After the ambush, the trio sells their shares for about $15 million. On their return, the manager's girlfriend spots Leung at the station with Yeung and Lam and contacts Boss's men. Her tip allows Boss to track them and set in motion retaliation against the trio and their families.
Leung's surrender and alleged execution
Leung turns himself in to Boss's henchmen, hoping to spare his team. Wah, Boss's subordinate, seemingly executes Leung in an unmarked grave, with Boss watching the act. The false death marks the beginning of a longer trove of consequences.
The Boss's downfall and Leung's plan
A year later, the Boss gives a charity speech while a video reveals his shadowy dealings from the previous morning. It is revealed that Leung had bought off Wah, using him as an agent to bring down the Boss. The authorities close in as the truth surfaces on screen.

Under police escort, the Boss is confronted, but Yeung drives the Boss off an unfinished bridge into the harbour as part of a murder-suicide. Yeung survives the earlier attempt, and Leung watches the event with a heavy heart. The conspiracy ends in tragedy and unresolved grief.

In the glittering yet cut‑throat world of Hong Kong’s stock market, a specialized police surveillance unit is pressed into service to monitor an investment firm suspected of deep‑seated fraud. The team operates from a cramped, tech‑laden watchroom, constantly listening in on encrypted calls and scanning frantic traders, while the city’s neon skyline pulses outside, a reminder that fortunes can change in an instant. The film’s tone blends gritty procedural realism with a sleek, almost voyeuristic aesthetic, making every click of a recorder feel like a secret doorway into a hidden economy.
Inspector Leung leads the trio with a calm, methodical presence, his personal life tangled with a lingering romance that hints at both vulnerability and resolve. Gene Yeung is a devoted family man, constantly juggling the demands of a sick child, a supportive wife, and the pressure of providing for them in a city that never slows. Max Lam arrives as the bright, ambitious newcomer, his eyes fixed on a future that includes both professional advancement and a marriage into wealth. Their distinct backgrounds create a dynamic tension: duty clashes with desire, and the sterile world of surveillance meets the messy realities of love, ambition, and survival.
As the operation deepens, the trio begins to recognize the power hidden within the streams of privileged information they collect. The narrative gently shifts its focus from the external target to the internal temptation, exploring how easy it is for those sworn to protect the law to slip into the gray area between justice and personal advantage. The film asks quiet, unsettling questions about the cost of ambition, the allure of easy profit, and the fragile line officers walk when the world they are watching mirrors their own hidden cravings.
