Monos 2019

On a distant mountaintop, a group known as the Monos, a team of teenage commandos identified solely by their unique codenames, engages in military exercises while keeping an eye on their prisoner, referred to as “Doctora”. The Monos are under the watchful eye of the Messenger, a high-ranking official from the mysterious Organization they serve. During a visit to supervise their training, the Messenger motivates them to push beyond their limits. Amidst this environment, two of the Monos, Lady and Wolf, receive approval to start a romantic relationship. Days later, as a gift for their celebration, the Messenger leaves them with a cow named Shakira.

Following their union, the group honors Lady and Wolf’s relationship with celebratory gunfire, tragically leading to Shakira being accidentally shot by Dog. In response, the Monos imprison Dog for his actions and proceed to butcher Shakira for meat, a grim turn that escalates tensions within the group. Compounding the discord, Wolf takes his own life, resulting in the Monos fabricating a story during radio communication with the Messenger, claiming that Wolf killed Shakira and ended his own life out of guilt.

As the atmosphere becomes even more charged, Lady shares a intimate moment by the fire with Rambo that night. Following Wolf’s death, Bigfoot ascends to the leadership role within the group. The Organization tries to ascertain Doctora’s wellbeing through radio inquiries, which she attempts to respond to.

When the Monos’ refuge is assaulted, Doctora comes under the watch of Swede, who warns her of the consequences should rescue forces attempt to retrieve her. In a moment of vulnerability, Doctora tries to connect with Swede emotionally, but their interactions turn violent as he attempts to control her. The next day, Bigfoot announces that the Monos have succeeded in their defense and will transfer to the jungle, marking a new phase in their precarious existence.

Attempting to escape from captivity, Doctora’s efforts lead to her being recaptured by Bigfoot. He reacts violently, smashing the radio and declaring their independence from the Organization. To further demonstrate his authority, Bigfoot orders Rambo to chain Doctora to a tree, which Rambo sadly complies with, inciting Bigfoot’s ire.

When the Messenger returns to assess the situation, he finds that Lady and Bigfoot have formed a bond without his consent. Raising suspicions, he forces the Monos to engage in punishing drills while revealing the truth about the circumstances surrounding Shakira’s death. As the Messenger plans to take Bigfoot for evaluation, the tension climaxes when Bigfoot shoots him during their boat ride, returning him to the jungle camp where dissent brews further.

The punishment for Smurf, who revealed critical information, follows as he is tied to a tree. With their morals deteriorating, the Monos intensify their training regimen, even resorting to robbing passing motorists. In a desperate attempt to aid Smurf, Rambo tries to liberate him but is thwarted by Lady and ultimately flees alone, seeking refuge with a diver.

Meanwhile, Doctora and Swede’s relationship turns deadly when she strangles him in the river during a swim attempt. With newfound determination, Doctora breaks free of her restraints and undertakes a perilous journey to escape, despite leaving Smurf behind.

As the Monos track down Rambo and attack the diver’s home, the violence escalates, leading to the deaths of innocent bystanders, including the man’s family. As Rambo makes a desperate escape, a news report indicates that Doctora may soon be located in the jungle. Eventually, Rambo is rescued by military forces, culminating in his emotional revelation as he arrives in a nearby city, with his fate as uncertain as that of the remaining Monos, echoing the chaos of their choices as the initial call for aid becomes a haunting memory.
