Minuscule 2: Mandibles from Far Away 2018

Cox, the friendly ladybug, lives in a world where he and Mandible the black ant have already toppled the red ant Butor. Years later, Cox is busy raising a litter with his mate and stockpiling food to weather the coming winter. The rhythm of their life is gentle but practical until a spark of independence shakes the group: Junior, one of Cox’s kids, ventures out to prove he can take care of himself. He finds an apple and tries to haul it back home, but trouble quickly follows.

Toofete the fly and his gang ambush and steal the fruit, boasting a strange afterlife-resilience that lets them survive fuelled by their own wild myths. Cox leads a chase that ends with the flies ensnared on a spider’s web; the web breaks, and the flies fall to their demise. The family returns home to begin hibernation, tucked safely with the others for the winter ahead. Across the way, Mandible and his patrol raid a grocery store to gather provisions, only to collide with Butor’s colony, who arrive with a desire for revenge against Cox and Mandible.

A split moment of danger follows when Mandible’s team is separated during a chase that sweeps into a shipping factory. Antennae become lifelines as Mandible contacts Cox for help; Cox wakes from hibernation, rousing Junior to tag along as they set off once more. The reunion leads to a dramatic ceiling‑lamp struggle between Cox and the red ants, culminating in a tumble that sends Mandible and the others into a box of chestnut jam headed for faraway destinations. A misstep sends Junior crashing into a box bound for Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, while Cox clings to a truck and then a plane—his path swinging toward the island paradise.

In Guadeloupe, the voyage continues with a rough ride on a pickup truck that dumps Cox onto a sunlit beach and leaves Junior lost in the jungle. With courage, Cox regains his footing and, bolstered by a band of Caribbean ants, manages to reach Mandible for help. They reconnect with Cox’s ally, the black spider, and set sail for a new leg of the journey aboard a modified miniature ship. A violent Atlantic crossing follows, where a lightning‑struck storm bursts the balloons and drops the ship into the open sea, ending in a swallow of a great white shark.

Meanwhile, deep in the jungle, Junior is forced to outwit a predatory mantis, and he tumbles into a cave where a jumping spider’s web traps him. There he meets a lively trio: Gray the fly, a black swallowtail caterpillar, and a black ladybug named Coco, with whom Junior soon feels a spark. Cox arrives just in time to save them, dropping a rock to unravel the spider’s web; the group escapes, carrying a comatose Junior. Gray and the caterpillar head home, while Coco guides Cox to her colony’s home, where the black ladybugs perform a ritual to awaken Junior.

Back on the surface, Cox continues trying to contact his friends, who are still inside the shark’s belly. After two tense days, Junior wakes and reunites with his father, and a budding romance begins between Junior and Coco. But new danger looms when construction workers chop down the black ladybug’s home to clear land for a resort. Remembering a defensive black swallowtail caterpillar that emits a powerful odor, Cox devises a plan and heads toward a banyan tree to find the caterpillar’s home. The group presses onward, fending off a cunning mantis and its gang, and is cornered near a cliff as danger closes in.

In a decisive moment, Mandible and the black spider arrive to tip the odds in their favor, having escaped by using the spider’s music player to force the shark to spit them back up. The band regroups and heads to the banyan tree, guided by the caterpillar Cox once saved, who points them toward the caterpillar leader. With the caterpillar’s memory‑reading help and the army’s support, Cox wards off the construction crew, and the area is declared caterpillar‑infested—a victory that protects the habitat and protects the future for all of them.

After the crisis, the group parts ways and returns home to resumes their hibernation, while Junior chooses to remain with Coco. In a mid‑credits scene, the chestnut box that held Butor and his colony finally reaches a restaurant in Beijing, China, where Butor plots a fresh scheme for escape and revenge against Cox and Mandible.
