Harikrishnan Jayaram is the youngest son of Thiruvikraman Muthallali, and his brothers Jayakrishnan and Gopikrishnan are uneducated and unmarried. Eager to build a better life, he moves to a Tamil village to take on the role of a manager at a courier company, aiming to earn a solid living and create stability for himself and his family. In this new setting, he encounters Pavizham Shobana, the daughter of the landlord Pollachi Gounder Vinu Chakravarthy. The landlord initially takes a liking to Harikrishnan, but Pavizham’s cousin Marimuthu resents him, setting up a clash between old loyalties and new love.

As Harikrishnan and Pavizham grow closer, they fall in love despite the tensions surrounding Pavizham’s background and her family’s expectations. Pavizham’s father is eager for another bridegroom for his daughter, possibly Marimuthu, and his insistence on a conventional path jeopardizes the couple’s happiness. The bond between Harikrishnan and Pavizham deepens quickly, and the lovers decide to elope rather than submit to an arranged match. Their act of defiance is discovered, and they are brought before the naattukoottam (panchayat), presided over by Pavizham’s father—the village’s respected nattamai.

In a decisive moment of authority and tradition, Gounder seeks to protect his daughter’s future by issuing a theerpu and presenting a thaali for Harikrishnan to tie around Pavizham’s neck, thereby sealing their marriage in the eyes of the community. The gesture is meant to legitimize their union, yet it also places Harikrishnan in a position where he must prove his worth to a cautious clan and navigate the expectations of those who fear upheaval to the social order.

Back home, Hari worries about whether his parents willaccept Pavizham as part of the family. To protect her from potential backlash, Pavizham is kept undercover as a maid in Hari’s home while he travels on business. This deception creates a fragile balance, as Pavizham must endure a hidden life under the same roof where love and duty tug at her every moment. When Hari returns, the truth of Pavizham’s situation cannot be hidden any longer. He reveals that Pavizham is his wife, a revelation that tests family loyalties and the boundaries of respect within the household.

Hari’s mother, who has grown fond of Pavizham, confronts her son about treating his wife as a servant and questions the choices that have brought them to this point. Yet beneath the initial sting of the revelation, there is a growing sense of acceptance. The parents, recognizing the sincerity of their son’s love and Pavizham’s gentleness, begin to open their hearts. They express their willingness to welcome Pavizham into the family as their daughter-in-law, signaling a hopeful path forward for Harikrishnan and Pavizham amid the complexities of tradition, kin, and affection.
