Manhunt in Space 1954

In Space Rangers Rocky Jones and his loyal co-pilot Winky of the United Planets are tasked with a critical mission: to investigate a series of mysterious disappearances of space ships near Cassa 7, a planet where the same organization is trying to establish a new outpost. Right from the start, Jones quickly uncovers that his fellow Space Ranger Reggie and Vena Ray, a valued member of the crew visiting her brother Paul Ray on Cassa 7, have become recent victims of these strange vanishings.

Their arrival orbiting Cassa 7 is dramatic, as Jones and Winky manage to rescue Reggie and Vena from danger, revealing to everyone that the missing ships are not actually destroyed but are instead hijacked by a group of cunning space pirates. These pirates are led by the notorious Rinkman, a space pirate leader known for his ruthless operations. The pirates use a clever method created by Dr. Vanko, an accomplice, to disable the ships’ power and equipment, effectively turning the vessels into passive satellites orbiting Cassa 7.

Jones suspects that the pirates are operating from a nearby planet called Prah, which is heavily guarded by an mysterious defense barrier that makes landing impossible without proper authorization or technology. Meanwhile, on a different planet named Ophecius, it is revealed that its ruler, Queen Cleolanta, is secretly the mastermind behind the pirates and is directly involved in the plundering of ships near Cassa 7.

In their effort to uncover the truth and stop the criminals, Jones and Winky seek assistance from Professor Newton, who devises an innovative plan involving a cloaking device using “cold light”. The science behind this technique is explained: because heat can cause objects to appear or be seen (like mirages), cold light can make objects visually vanish.

With this new technology, Jones successfully lands on Prah, where he is captured by Rinkman. During this tense confrontation, Rinkman offers Jones a deal—he can join the pirates if he provides the cold light device. However, Jones soon discovers that the pirates are not working for their apparent master; they are actually being controlled by someone much more powerful, though Rinkman refuses to reveal who that might be.

Winky plays a key role in helping Jones escape from Prah, and the duo quickly skedaddles before the pirates can catch them again. Back on Cassa 7, the story takes a darker turn when Ken, the Space Traffic Controller, is secretly revealed to be a double agent working for the pirates. He secretly informs them about Rocky Jones’ arrival, enabling the pirates to capture him.

Rocky Jones is then tied up next to Hagar Nu, a Martian assistant who confesses that Ken kidnapped him in an effort to frame Jones as part of the pirate operation. With cleverness and quick thinking, Jones and Hagar manage to escape from their captors, and Jones devises a plan to trap the pirates by disguising his ship as untraceable through a clever switch of markings on a platform. Ken is momentarily captured, but he manages to break free, raising an alarm that warns the pirates of Jones’s tactics.

In a notable act of sabotage, Hagar plants plastic explosives in the nozzle of the pirates’ ship, which are set to detonate at takeoff. Despite the danger, Jones initiates a rescue mission instead of leaving the pirates stranded, aiming to bring them in alive. Rinkman chooses to ignore Jones’s warning, leading to a fierce confrontation. As the pirates attempt to launch, their ship falters—its fuel pumps have been disabled—and a fistfight erupts between Jones, Winky, and the pirates.

Thanks to Winky, who reveals he disabled the ship’s fuel systems, the Space Rangers are ultimately victorious. The film concludes with Winky pondering whether a girl might be waiting for him and jokingly suggesting he could find a friend for Jones, hinting at future adventures.
