Mika's Grief

Mika is a troubled teenager grappling with the death of her mother and the recent marriage of her father to a woman named Sheryl. This emotional turmoil drives her to seek solace in the wilderness of Mount Milagros, a special place she shared with her mother.

Encounter with Caloy

While on her way to the mountain, Mika mistakenly runs over Caloy's foot, mistaking him for a maniac. Overcome with guilt, she decides to offer him a ride on his journey to Calaca to see his estranged father.

Sharing Their Stories

As they travel together, Mika and Caloy share their personal stories. Caloy reveals that he is in remission from leukemia, while Mika discusses her unusual desire to be taken by aliens, leading to a playful argument about carabaos being carnivorous.

Berting's Ride

During their journey, they encounter Berting, a farmer who becomes caught up in their bickering. After a brief scolding, Mika offers him a ride, but their trip is delayed as some of his chickens escape along the way.

Defending Berting

Upon arriving at Berting's mother-in-law's house, Mika stands up for him when he faces criticism for being late. This act of kindness earns her respect from both Berting and his mother-in-law, further solidifying their bond.

Meeting Goldie

During their travels, Mika and Caloy find one of the escaped chickens hiding in her car. They name the chicken Goldie and begin to playfully pretend to be a married couple, adding humor and light-heartedness to their journey.

Lunch with Aling Berns

Mika and Caloy have lunch with a local woman, Aling Berns, and her daughter Ronnabel. Their bonding time allows them to discuss their lives and dreams, giving a deeper insight into their characters before they part ways.

Confronting Family Strife

After dropping Caloy off at his father’s place, he is disappointed when his father refuses to see him. Caloy’s frustration leads him to a bridge where he contemplates jumping off, revealing the weight of his emotional burdens.

Journey to Mount Milagros

Mika finds Caloy and stops him from jumping, persuading him to join her on a journey to Mount Milagros to fulfill their hope of being taken by aliens. They encounter Ronnabel again, encouraging her to face her fears by attending the prom with them.

Getting Lost

While seeking the summit of Mount Milagros, Mika and Caloy lose their way and decide to spend the night in a hotel. During this time, Mika takes the opportunity to reconcile with her family over the phone, showcasing her growth and desire to reunite.

Caloy's Health Crisis

The next day, Mika finds a weakened Caloy bleeding from his cancer, highlighting the severity of his condition. Despite his protests about burdening his family, Mika insists on getting him to the hospital for treatment.

Hospital Treatment

As Caloy receives treatment, he experiences a vision of him and Mika being abducted by aliens at Mount Milagros, blending his hope with desperation. Upon waking, he realizes that Mika has left to raise funds for his care.

Mika's Departure

Mika leaves behind a letter for Caloy's family, expressing that he gave her a reason to continue living and encouraging him to find his own reasons for happiness. Her departure marks a significant moment for both characters.

Caloy's Recovery

Some time later, after successfully undergoing treatment, Caloy fully recovers. He decides to hike back to Mount Milagros, symbolizing his newfound hope and strength.
