Dasu, Ravi Teja, is the son of a counterfeit racketeer, Kota Srinivasa Rao. When his father goes to jail, Dasu becomes an orphan. He drops out after the 10th grade and drifts through life as a vagabond. Meanwhile, a ruthless smuggling operation runs drugs and arms into the country. An honest police officer, Prakash Raj, hatches a plan and recruits an informer, Venu, Raja Ravindra, into their underworld. Venu stays with the gang for a while, passes on information to the police, and helps them bust the smugglers’ team—though not the kingpin himself.

To outwit the criminals, the don’s henchmen enlist a plan from the kingpin’s right-hand lawyer, Biju Menon, and the don himself is portrayed by Lal. The trick is simple in theory: admit one of their henchmen into the police to get information from the reverse side. But this infiltrator must not be in police records and must be crooked and cunning. The smugglers’ hunt narrows to Dasu, who is threatened and forced to play puppet in their hands. To push him into the police department, they decide he should complete the tenth class. They enroll him in a school, where he meets Nakshatra, Ileana D’Cruz, a teacher who is initially unimpressed by his appearance and lack of education.

Encouraged by the don’s strategist, the idea takes root: Dasu should study hard and become a police officer to win Nakshatra’s affection. He embraces the plan, becomes a diligent student, and passes the exam, earning a post as a constable in the traffic wing. The smugglers’ unit then engineers another scheme to push him into the crime police, testing his loyalty under pressure. As Dasu’s sincerity begins to show, Nakshatra starts to rekindle her feelings for him. However, tragedy strikes when Venu, Nakshatra’s brother, is killed by Dasu at the behest of the don, and Nakshatra blames him.

Grieving and conflicted, Dasu grows disillusioned with a job he took partly to win a girl’s heart. He eventually turns against the don and defeats him in a final confrontation, killing the Smuggler Don, Lal. Nakshatra learns from the lawyer that her brother died at the hands of the don, and she reconciles with Dasu. The film ends on a hopeful note as the couple finds happiness together.
