Carson Morris, played by Lara Vosburgh, was once an exemplary student, but her life took a dark turn as she spiraled into addiction. After enrolling in a prestigious Catholic high school, Carson found solace in drugs, leading her to reluctantly agree to have a documentary crew film her struggles during rehab. Upon her arrival at the clinic, Carson quickly becomes an easy target for mockery from the other patients, who ridicule her claims of being demonically possessed. However, not everyone is quick to dismiss her; Jason, a compassionate production assistant portrayed by Morgan McClellan, begins to show understanding toward her unusual experiences. His initial skepticism transforms into belief as they bond over the chilling supernatural occurrences that seem to manifest only in solitude. The camera rolls on these eerie moments, challenging viewers to question the reality of Carson’s assertions.

As the story unfolds, tensions rise, and Carson’s erratic behavior raises alarms among both the clinic’s staff and the documentary crew. Following a violent outburst directed at Jason, the show’s producer, Suzanne, played by Kate Whitney, grows increasingly anxious. She pressures the clinic’s physician, Dean Pretiss, portrayed by Richard Wilkinson, to consider drastic measures for Carson’s care. Although Pretiss is reluctant at first, he ultimately refuses to call in an exorcist, believing that such an action would harm Carson’s mental health. Instead, he suggests transferring her to a more critical mental institution. This choice triggers a cascade of complications, as Suzanne pushes for a more theatrical solution, leaving Carson’s future hanging in a precarious balance.

After a disturbing revelation, the following day, a grief-stricken Carson reveals that Jason had sneaked heroin into her system while she was under sedation. This shocking act leads to her dismissal from the clinic, and her family, now wary, withdraw their consent for any further filming. Undeterred, Jason visits Carson at her home, attempting to connect with her dismissive parents, Beth and Steve, played by Colleen McGrann and Christopher Parker. However, parental resistance forces him to look elsewhere for answers. Within Carson’s social circle, he uncovers the horrifying truth: she had been ruthlessly bullied at her school by acquaintances who dragged her into a deranged Satanic ritual, ultimately plunging her into possession.

Determined, Jason returns to the Morris residence with the film crew, demanding to see Carson. Initially met with hesitation from her parents, fear quickly dominates when they hear blood-curdling screams coming from upstairs. With his options dwindling, Jason bravely attempts a solo exorcism, only to be thwarted as paranormal forces disrupt the house’s electricity. As the air thickens with dread, Carson fully succumbs to possession, turning on her family members in a chilling spree, including her remorseful mother, who confesses to her daughter’s horrible mistreatment at the hands of bullies.

In a final desperate attempt to reach the girl he cared for, Jason experiences fleeting moments of connection with Carson. However, their brief joy dissipates when her father, believing she remains a hollow shell of her former self, shoots her in the head before taking his own life in despair. The shadows deepen, and tragically, Suzanne becomes a victim of Jason’s judgment as he wrestles with his inner turmoil. As he powerlessly turns off the camera, the darkness reveals itself fully; Jason’s eyes mirror the malignancy that once consumed Carson, indicating a terrifying bond forged in tragedy.
