Married life in the East End

A young East Ender woman marries bomb-disposal officer Lenny and builds a life with their four-year-old son. They navigate daily routines amid the looming danger of Lenny’s work, trying to maintain normalcy for their family.

An illicit affair

The woman begins a clandestine affair with Jasper, a reporter. The relationship introduces emotional tension and competing loyalties that will complicate her life after the tragedy.

The stadium attack

During a football match, six suicide bombers carry out a devastating attack. Lenny, their son, and roughly a thousand others are killed in the chaos. The blast shatters the family and the public’s sense of safety.

Attempts to comfort

Jasper’s investigation

Terrence confesses he knew a suicide attack was planned and could have stopped it, but he chose not to in order to continue his investigation. He did not know which stadium would be targeted and suspected the scale would be smaller. He knew Lenny and his son would be present, yet he did not warn them.

Therapeutic letters

For therapy, the mother writes letters addressed to Osama bin Laden, articulating her grief and questions about responsibility. The letters become a coping mechanism as she tries to make sense of the tragedy.
