The tension peaks when a local subject kills the American heiress, an act that the commander condemns as a reckless, untried punishment carried out without due process.

As the situation spirals, Sharif discovers the commander in bed with Ilsa, and he imprisons the commander, while Ilsa is restrained and subjected to a sequence of coercive abuses meant to force cooperation. The plan culminates in a pivotal confrontation: Ilsa triggers a final, grim arrangement involving Katsina and Sharif, while Prince Salim’s safety and succession remain a secret to all but a few. In the aftermath, the prince reveals a broader loyalty when he intervenes: the two remaining new slaves are freed and given weapons, Sharif’s guards fall, and Ilsa is captured by the lawful sovereign’s forces. Prince Salim frees the young heir and rejects Ilsa’s authority, while Katsina’s fate, the chastity belt, and the explosive device are all tied to a dramatic, final act. The device detonates in a moment of raw truth, and the commander intervenes, reminding everyone of Katsina’s innocence and returning a measure of agency to those who were exploited. Yet the political calculus remains stark: the prince declares Ilsa’s punishment and loosens the chain that had bound the others, leaving the commander to depart and the country to move forward under a newly asserted, if uneasy, order.
