Despite a raging blizzard, they race home along the mountain road; Julie becomes lost, and stumbles upon a small cottage rented by pulp-fiction writer Michael Shaw Alan Marshal. He seduces her, and the next morning they marry and elope to Paris.

Ten unhappy years pass. When Michael is shot in a brawl, Julie returns to her hometown with their daughter, Little Michael Shaw Genee Hall. Ives has become a college professor, and the two cross paths in a tense, guarded reunion. One of Ives’ students, Brenda Lane, Louise Platt has developed a massive crush on her teacher and uses almost the exact words Julie once spoke to him to reveal her own feelings.
