On a misty journey from England, Jonathan Harker travels by train and carriage toward a remote castle perched high in the Carpathian Mountains along the Transylvanian border. His mission is to catalog the vast library of the formidable Count Dracula. At first, the Count’s courteous welcome softens Harker’s nerves, but soon the atmosphere tightens around him, and the castle’s ancient corridors seem to close in. Against Dracula’s stern warnings to stay within his room at night, Harker ventures out and falls under the spell of three alluring but dangerous women—the Brides of Dracula—until the Count intervenes, saving him at the last moment to keep him alive.

Harker’s escape is only the beginning of a shadowy pursuit. Dracula sets his sights on Harker’s betrothed, Mina Murray, and her close friend Lucy Westenra. The strange illness that slowly saps Lucy’s strength alarms those around her, and a wary, increasingly urgent concern draws in Dr. Seward’s old mentor, the brilliant and enigmatic Professor Abraham Van Helsing from Amsterdam. Van Helsing immediately recognizes the earliest signs of vampiric danger, though he keeps his deductions close to the chest to preserve the faith of those who would rather deny what they fear.

As transfusions are attempted in a desperate bid to save Lucy, the danger intensifies. Dracula’s influence reaches beyond the castle, and Lucy’s condition worsens in ways that a medical hand cannot easily explain. A wolf attack on Lucy and her mother, plus the mysterious death of Mrs. Westenra, marks a darkest turn, and Lucy herself passes away soon after. She is buried, but the severed line between life and the dead proves fragile: the newspapers begin to report a “bloofer lady” stalking children at night, a chilling sign of the vampire’s return.

Van Helsing, once again called to protect the living, identifies Lucy’s transformation and marshals the group to confront the threat. In a tense, brutal confrontation, Lucy’s vampiric form is defeated—her heart staked, her head severed, and garlic forced into her mouth to seal the end of the threat. Meanwhile, Jonathan Harker returns from a period of rest in Budapest and joins Mina as they unite with Van Helsing and the others to confront Dracula directly.

Dracula learns of the plan arrayed against him and strikes back at Mina, biting her on multiple occasions and feeding her his blood, creating a perilous spiritual bond that binds her to him. Mina’s consciousness flickers between awareness and trance as she is drawn into Dracula’s world, yet this bond also provides a dangerous clue to the vampire’s movements. The group uses the blood-tinged connection and Mina’s intermittent lucidity to follow Dracula’s trail, a perilous path that grows weaker as they push toward his homeland.

The pursuit ends at Dracula’s own stronghold in Transylvania, just before sundown. Van Helsing and his companions close in and confront the undead foe, ultimately destroying him with a double-knife strike that severs the throat and pierces the heart. With Dracula’s power broken, Mina is freed from the spectral hold that once bound her to his will. Quincey Morris is fatally wounded during the final clash, a consequence of the brutal fight carried out by the allied party who were charged with returning Dracula to his castle. The remaining survivors return to England, bearing the weight of loss but carrying the hope of a world made safer by their united stand against the night.
