Richie Donovan, Stephen Dorff, is a professional thief who is deeply indebted to his boss, Groznyi, for smuggling him into the U.S. as a child. After a botched diamond heist that ends in two car crashes, Richie is given one final chance to clear his debt. He travels to Moscow to steal a priceless antique cross from a penthouse, accompanied by two Russian accomplices, Peter and Yuri.

They succeed in retrieving the cross, but their escape is foiled when the elevator stalls on the unfinished 13th floor. Believing they are trapped, they take the other passengers hostage to negotiate their release. When the elevator reaches ground level, one of the hostages is found beheaded, signaling that something far more dangerous is at play.

As fear and distrust spread, the hostages split into two factions. Sonya, [Bronagh Gallagher], Helena, and Katerina form a Christian sect, joined by Yuri, while Dmitry, Anna, and security guard Boris align with a second group. The Christian faction seizes firearms, wounding Peter, and Sonya leads Yuri to a hidden chamber where a wild, armored man named Alex awaits to sacrifice him. Yuri escapes, but is killed by one of Alex’s elaborate traps, accompanied by disco music and flashing lights. In the melee that follows, Katerina is killed, and Richie and the remaining survivors manage to flee.

The survivors discover Alex’s lair, equipped with security cameras that monitor every move. They learn that Alex is Sonya’s twin brother, and both believe they are descended from Ivan the Terrible. Richie and Anna decide to pursue Alex, while Boris and Dmitry set traps to slow him down. The plan falters as Dmitry is captured and Boris is fooled into triggering a faulty trap, costing him a hand. Even with the injury, Boris is further hampered by a serum injected into him that restricts his facial movement.

Meanwhile, Alex retrieves the cross and prepares to sacrifice Peter, who has somehow survived his injuries. In a climactic confrontation, Richie, Boris, and Peter attack Alex. Peter is killed, but Richie manages to impale Alex on his own disco spikes and set him on fire, reclaiming the cross. As they attempt to escape, Sonya makes a last-ditch effort to strangle Richie, but Anna intervenes and stabs Sonya with a nail file, saving him.

Outside, Groznyi greets the survivors and presents Richie with a handsome reward. The twist reveals that Groznyi is Sonya and Alex’s brother, leaving Richie furious and determined never to work for him again. He and Anna depart for Los Angeles, hoping to leave the chaos behind, though the shadow of Groznyi’s empire lingers and hints that Richie’s path may not be truly free.

🗝️

Betrayal

Betrayal threads through every plan and alliance, turning allies into threats as debts, loyalty, and survival collide. The group fractures into competing factions, each driven by self-interest. Blood ties—Sonya and Alex as siblings—add a personal layer to the betrayals that escalate the violence. The heist becomes a reckoning as trust dissolves in a dangerous game of power.

👑

Power

Power centers on control of the cross and the hostages, with every faction vying for leverage. Groznyi manipulates people through money and intimidation, while Richie seeks freedom from his debt. Sonya and Alex claim a dark, almost ceremonial authority, grounding their actions in myth and lineage. The confrontations reveal how power isolates those who crave it.

🧭

Survival

Everyone is forced to improvise under extreme pressure, turning a single elevator incident into a fight for survival. Traps, improvised weapons, and shifting alliances test each character's resolve. The goal becomes staying alive rather than following moral codes. The brutal environment reshapes relationships and determines who will live.

🧩

Mythic lineage

The narrative anchors Sonya and Alex to a claimed descent from Ivan the Terrible, injecting a ritualistic dimension into the crisis. The secret chamber and Alex's armored presence introduce a ceremonial sense of danger beyond a standard heist. Blood ties and inherited power drive fatal decisions that blur crime with cult-like devotion. This mythic angle heightens tension as reality and superstition collide.

In the shadows of the criminal underworld, Ritchie Donovan has built a reputation as a consummate professional, moving through heists with a blend of precision and cool detachment. A childhood debt to a powerful benefactor hangs over him, and after a disastrous job leaves him isolated and burdened with blame, he is handed a last‑minute offer that could settle his arrears. The proposition is as stark as it is enticing: travel to Moscow and infiltrate a towering skyscraper to retrieve a priceless antique cross from a secure penthouse. The stakes feel personal, the odds unforgiving, and the city itself looms like a steel‑clad maze waiting to test his limits.

Moscow’s skyline provides more than a backdrop; it becomes a character in its own right. The gleaming façade of the skyscraper hides a labyrinth of corridors, elevators, and high‑security vaults, each corner humming with a quiet dread that amplifies the tension of every step. The atmosphere is a cold, metallic blend of corporate opulence and subterranean menace, where the line between ally and adversary blurs beneath flickering lights. The tone oscillates between pulse‑quickening suspense and moments of unsettling calm, hinting at hidden forces that watch from the shadows, ready to intervene when least expected.

Alongside Ritchie, two Russian companions—Peter and Yuri—bring their own skills and uneasy loyalties to the mission, shaping a dynamic that teeters between camaraderie and silent competition. Their presence adds layers of cultural friction and mutual distrust, underscoring the fragile alliances forged under pressure. As the trio navigates the building’s elite interior, each decision feels like a delicate balance between professional ambition and survival instinct, leaving the audience poised on the edge of uncertainty, eager to see whether skill alone can outpace the inexorable pull of fate.
