Arrival at Boggy Creek

A severe storm hits, forcing the group to remain overnight in Crenshaw's cabin. Crenshaw, mistaking Lockhart for a medical doctor, asks for help tending to a captive animal he has on his property.

Discovery of the Little Creature

Crenshaw reveals the animal he captured is the offspring of the creature described in the sheriff's tale, the Little Creature. Lockhart hypothesizes that the Big Creature has become more hostile because its child is near death. The discovery reframes the encounter as a parent protecting its young.
