Gillis swears revenge, escapes with Sue’s help, and then guns down Rocca and two henchmen, adopting Sue’s surname as an alias.

In a pharmacy holdup, Gillis is wounded by a gunshot. He seeks help from Doc Saunders [Cedric Hardwicke], whose patients include America’s most wanted criminal, John Dillinger [Leo Gordon]. With a new nickname—Baby Face Nelson—he joins up with Dillinger and soon becomes the FBI’s second-most wanted man.
