Soon after, the family dies in their sleep, and others who perished within the palace return as whispering echoes. The building seems to breathe with the dead, and Kadhiresan’s own life retreats into isolation as the spirits, including Kadhiresan’s late cook, Shanmugam, remain trapped. Shanmugam claims a grim pattern: a mysterious force drives him to poison the inhabitants every full moon, and only a survivor might unlock their freedom. In 2021, Rudra’s family of thieves butt heads with two rival groups, drawing attention from Inspector Kadhir, the great-great-grandson of Kadhiresan. Kadhir and his grandfather Vikram want to sell the palace, but rumors of a haunting complicate the plan. Supposedly, Kadhir hires Rudra’s family to clean the property and insists they stay there until the full moon to prove the place is safe, essentially setting the stage for a quick loot if the haunting proves harmless. Rudra’s crew agrees, hoping to seize the estate cheaply, while the palace’s reputation as a cursed site continues to shadow every move.

When Rudra arrives, the air itself seems to tighten. The family schemes to stage a convincing haunting to drive the price down, yet a genuine energy stirs within the walls. The romance is thwarted when Kadhiresan refuses to sell, poisoning the couple and setting off a chain of vengeance. The pregnant Annabelle [Taapsee Pannu] dies while swearing vengeance, a moment witnessed by the palace cook. After Kadhiresan and his family move into the palace, Shanmugam poisons their meals, killing them all the next day except for Vikram, who misses the last meal. Since that cruel night, Shanmugam has haunted the corridors, erasing Kadhiresan’s lineage and leaving only Vikram and Kadhir as survivors.

Back in the present, Kadhir’s bid to eject Rudra’s family is thwarted when a mysterious force throws him and his henchmen out of the palace, a sign that the ghosts will not permit interference. Rudra begins to glimpse the truth behind the spectral activity, while Shanmugam’s deceit is exposed to the ghosts, who grow angry at being manipulated. A turning point arrives when Vikram returns, convinced that Rudra is Annabelle reborn and determined to kill her to satisfy his grandfather’s ghost. A new arrival—the government official who resembles Veera Sethupathi—enters with news that the palace will be seized as a heritage-listed tourism site.
