The film opens with Rosyam Nor as Hisham, a wanted criminal, who in a frantic bid to save his son pleads with Mariam, a mentally ill woman living in a hallway, to adopt the boy. After a violent shootout, Hisham is captured by the police. Mariam raises the child and names him Inderaputera, the boy later depicted as Inderaputera, played by Farid Kamil. They live in the slums, near Bu Leha and her daughter Johanna, a tomboy who secretly loves Putera. Putera is then raised by Bu Leha, who moves with Jo and her daughter to Kuala Lumpur in the hope of better lives.
