One year after the events of the first film, Freddy Lupin, Ilai Swindells, a confident poodle who believes he can lead his werewolf pack, faces a new test during a daring rescue on a burning airship. He clings to a tether as debris rains down, and his quick action helps slow the ship and save all the people aboard. Back in Farfang, however, the pack laughs at him and treats him as a villain, a sting that hurts even as his father consoles him with the idea that respect isn’t earned in a day but earned through deeds. With a heavy heart, Freddy leaves the room, followed by Batty Samara Weaving, and the two begin to navigate the fragile line between hero and outcast.

Their search leads them to an ancient stone—the Summoning Stone—carved with the image of a werewolf performing a ritual used by the pack to summon the moon spirits. Freddy places his palm on the symbol and asks the moon spirits for help, but the spirits do not answer. A baby moon spirit named Moopoo, Elizabeth Nabben, does hear the plea and descends to Earth, bringing a surge of power that transforms Freddy into a true werewolf in a dramatic moment that astonishes everyone present. The transformation is witnessed by the pack, and Moopoo’s arrival makes Freddy’s new form feel earned and real.

As the tale unfolds, Lady Hightail, Heather Mitchell, shares a cautionary history about Max, a former Night Patrol member and powerful sorcerer. Max, an evil force who once sought recognition through forbidden earth magic, was shunned by the pack and briefly tried to steal the moon’s power herself. The moon spirits punished her, denying any chance to transform again. Freddy is blamed for the peril that followed when Earth and the spirit plane briefly touched, threatening cosmic balance. The moon cannot simply send help back home, and Max is the only one who knows a portal spell—yet she remains ostracized for a long time.

Moopoo soon disappears, and the pack, now worried about what will become of the moon spirit on Earth, urges Freddy to pursue a solution. Freddy is suspended from the Night Patrol and reunites with his father at the wall gate, where Flasheart and Hotspur, both played by Peter McAllum, offer a stark warning: the moon spirit should not remain on Earth, and Moopoo’s power could fade, potentially causing irreversible harm. To save Moopoo, Freddy and Batty rally their friends—Twitchy and Hamish, brought to the mission by the group’s resolve, along with Bruno—to locate Max and learn the portal spell that could return Moopoo home. Their quest leads them to the Great Kennel, a repository of dog stories and secrets, and then into The Great Mist, guided by a faithful guide dog as they board a bus and hop from stop to stop toward their destiny.

Inside a forest-full of traps and magical barriers, Moopoo destroys the barrier, and Batty admits she needs Freddy’s sharp senses, joining the journey as she and Freddy push onward. A bat monster named Gargar appears, scattering the group, and Freddy and Batty find themselves separated from the rest. Max arrives with a harsh greeting, forcing Freddy to follow her and turning the encounter into a test of loyalty: she pretends to threaten Twitchy, Hamish, and Bruno to push Freddy into a path that will teach him dangerous lessons about trust and power. Freddy begins to learn spells under Max’s tutelage, and the pair’s uneasy alliance grows as they start preparing magic for the next day.

In the morning, Moopoo taps into dark magic by absorbing power from the Whoopsies, making them even more troublesome. While Freddy learns more from Max, Batty seeks the others but runs afoul of Gargar again. Freddy’s exploration of magic leads to a hidden library of spells, and Max’s absence allows him to experiment—though Moopoo’s growing dark magic threatens to spiral out of control. As the day unfolds, Freddy realizes Max’s plan involves using the portal spell for her own gain, and they confront the choice of who they can trust.

Max’s true betrayal comes to light when she compels Freddy to carry out a dangerous task that would open the portal and grant her access to the moon’s power. She traps Batty and the others in a forcefield and begins siphoning moon magic through the portal, causing gravity on Earth to become unstable. Freddy fights back with a fragile incantation, and Batty, Hamish, and Twitchy manage to break free using a shard of Hamish’s guide dog glasses and a burst of Bruno’s potent fart. As the conflict escalates, Freddy’s father and the pack arrive to help, but Max intensifies her attack with a spell that makes everyone bow before her.

In a climactic turn, Batty summons Gargar to strike, and Moopoo attempts to draw the moon’s light toward their side. Max attacks Moopoo with dark magic, but Freddy intervenes and turns Max into a powerless frog. The ripple effect of dark magic, however, triggers Moopoo to become a gigantic monster who can command gravity. Freddy and the others calm him with a lullaby—the same one his mother sang to him—and Moopoo regains his senses, using his power to stop the Moon from crashing into Earth and restore gravity to normal.

Weary and weakened, Moopoo begins to fade, and Freddy makes a selfless choice: he sacrifices some of his own moon energy to save Moopoo, losing his wolf form and becoming human in the process. Moopoo, restored, returns to the Moon to reunite with his mother and the other moon spirits. With the Moon’s blessing, they send down moon power to Freddy, who is transformed back into a poodle, and the pack bows to him as a sign of earned respect and leadership.

In a post-credits moment, Max remains a frog and, in frog fashion, instinctively snares a fly, a wry last joke on the trials she faced and the path she had taken.
