Winona Laura Horowitz, known professionally as Winona Ryder, is an American actress and producer. She gained attention in the late 1980s for her portrayal of quirky characters, achieving great success in the 1990s with more dramatic performances. Her accolades include a Golden Globe, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, and a Grammy Award. Ryder debuted in the film Lucas (1986) and rose to prominence starring in the comedy Beetlejuice (1988). She followed this with major roles in Heathers (1989), Edward Scissorhands and Mermaids (1990), and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). She earned two consecutive Oscar nominations—Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress—for films The Age of Innocence (1993) and Little Women (1994), respectively.
