Born in February 14, 1902, Ritter had a prolific career earning a Tony Award and an impressive six Academy Award nominations, the most in the Best Supporting Actress category. She is celebrated for memorable performances in films such as All About Eve (1950), The Mating Season (1951), With a Song in My Heart (1952), Pickup on South Street (1953), Pillow Talk (1959), and Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), with roles in other films like Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Rear Window (1954), The Misfits (1961), and How the West Was Won (1962). She was also part of musical New Girl in Town, which won her the Best Actress Tony Award in 1958.

From Brooklyn, Thelma Ritter had a passion for the dramatic arts from an early age, performing in a semi-professional production at age 11. Despite initial struggle, she was formally trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts after high school. She paused her acting career to raise her two children, returning to have an illustrious career on Broadway and in films. Her first movie role was in Miracle on 34th Street (1947).
