Steven Bauer, born Esteban Ernesto Echevaría Samson on December 2, 1956 in Havana, Cuba, is a Cuban‑American actor whose career spans over four decades. His early years were shaped by exile; his family fled the Cuban Revolution and arrived in Miami on Independence Day 1960, when he was three, bringing with them a multicultural legacy that included a German‑Jewish grandfather who escaped World II. After graduating from Miami Coral Park High School in 1974, he studied drama at Miami‑Dade Community College and later at the University of Miami, where he forged a lifelong friendship with future star Ray Liotta.

Bauer’s professional break came with the bilingual PBS sitcom ¿Qué Pasa, USA? (1977‑1979), where he portrayed the son of Cuban immigrants, establishing his screen presence.
