Roshan Mathew: Movies & Box Office

Roshan Mathew (born 22 March 1992) is an Indian actor who has made a notable impact across Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil cinema, as well as the Indian theatre circuit. Hailing from the small town of Changanassery in Kerala, he is the son of Mathew Joseph, a bank manager at Canara Bank, and Regina Augustine, a retired PWD engineer, and grew up in a middle‑class household that valued education and discipline. After completing his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kottayam, Roshan briefly enrolled in the School of Engineering at CUSAT in Kochi but left after a year to pursue a B.Sc. in Physics at Madras Christian College, Chennai, where his passion for performance began to crystalise during his second year. Encouraged by college friends, he co‑founded the amateur troupe Theatre No. 60, staging productions such as Rope and a celebrated revival of Sartre’s No Exit, for which he received a national‑level Best Director award in 2013. His professional break in theatre arrived in August 2010 when Stagefright Productions cast him as Neal Kellerman in Dirty Dancing at The Museum Theatre, Chennai, launching a series of collaborations with prominent Chennai companies and later with The Drama School Mumbai, where he appeared in adaptations of The Dragon and The Glass Menagerie. Transitioning to screen, Roshan debuted in the web series Tanlines before landing his first film role in A.K. Sajan’s Puthiya Niyamam (2016). A supporting turn in Aanandam (2016) earned him widespread recognition, and subsequent performances in Koode (2018) and Moothan (2019) garnered two SIIMA Awards. He headlined the critically acclaimed dramas Kappela (2020) and C U Soon (2021), and expanded into Hindi cinema with Choked (2020) and Darlings (2022). Continually balancing stage and screen, Roshan remains a versatile talent whose career, active since 2015, reflects a blend of theatrical rigor and cinematic charisma.
