Who Is Roberta Gale?
Roberta Gale was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S. in 1914. Credited on films since 1931, as an actor. The background, training and the roles that shaped the career.
Roberta Gale (October 18, 1914 – January 29, 2008) was an American actress who became known for her work as a leading lady in a number of Poverty Row western films during the 1930s. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of J.M. Gale and Blanche Harris Gale, and was raised in the sunny climate of Miami, Florida, a stark contrast to her industrial birthplace. Her early exposure to the entertainment world came at a remarkably young age, as she made her Broadway debut in the musical The New Yorkers in 1927, when she was only thirteen years old. By the time she arrived in Hollywood at the age of fifteen, critics described her as "a Clara Bow type", referencing the iconic flapper-era star whose vibrant screen presence Gale was said to resemble. She quickly established herself in the world of low-budget cinema, becoming a familiar face in B-westerns and other modestly produced films of the era. Among her notable film credits are Are These Our Children? (1931), The Public Defender (1931), Girl of the Rio (1932), Her Splendid Folly (1933), Police Call (1933), Mystery Ranch (1934), Terror of the Plains (1934), St. Louis Woman (1934), Cheers of the Crowd (1935), Alias John Law (1935), No Man's Range (1935), and Fighting Youth (1935). Her film career, though brief, spanned the early sound era of American cinema and showcased her versatility across genres including westerns, dramas, and mysteries. After marrying the prominent philanthropist and financier S. Mark Taper in Los Angeles in 1962, the union lasted only eight months before ending. Gale lived a long life, passing away on January 29, 2008, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 93.
