Reed Birney is an acclaimed American actor, renowned for his remarkable performances on both stage and screen. Born on September 11, 1954, Birney made his mark in the entertainment industry in 1976, with a career spanning over four decades. He gained significant recognition in 2016 for his stellar performance in 'The Humans,' for which he won the prestigious Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. Prior to this, his notable performance in 'Casa Valentina' in 2014 had also earned him a nomination in the same category.

Birney attended Boston University College of Fine Arts for two years, where he honed his acting skills before moving to New York City. There, he attended classes sponsored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, further expanding his skills. He first appeared off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 1976 in 'Gemini' by Albert Innaurato. Since then, he has appeared in several off-Broadway plays and Broadway productions, such as 'Bug' (2004), 'Casa Valentina' (2014), 'The Humans,' and other plays. His filmography includes films like 'Mass' (2021), 'Four Friends' (1981), and 'The Menu' (2022). Apart from films and stage, he has had recurring roles in several popular TV series like 'Gossip Girl' (2007–2009), 'House of Cards' (2013–2017), 'The Blacklist' (2014–2015), and 'Home Before Dark' (2021–2022). He also teaches as an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University.
