Peter Nicks: Movies & Box Office

Peter Olivera Nicks, born on May 2, 1968, is an accomplished American film director, producer, and writer. He began his impressive career in television and gained commendable experience as a co-producer and editor of the prominent 2006 episode 'Blame Somebody Else' of PBS series AIR, which earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Feature Story in a News Magazine, emphasizing the grave issue of human trafficking during the Iraq War. On furthering himself within the cinema scope, Nicks took on the outstanding direction of the 2012 documentary film 'The Waiting Room' which portrays the various ups and downs faced by patients, doctor's, and staff at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. His dedicated work and devotion towards the cinema did not go unnoticed, and in 2015, he was granted a United States Artists (USA) fellowship. Not stopping at it, in 2017 he released yet another documentary 'The Force', focusing on the reform measures at the Oakland Police Department. He prefers to give his work a realistic touch, which is particularly evident with his film 'Homeroom (2021)', the last of his trilogy based on Oakland's public institutions, which takes on an exploration of Oakland High School Class of 2020, portraying their unfortunate hits by the COVID-19 pandemic forcing them into virtual classes and missing out on graduation ceremonies. Adding another feather to his hat, Nicks directed 'Stephen Curry: Underrated', premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
