Peter Berg (born March 11, 1964) is an acclaimed American director, producer, writer, and actor best known for his contributions to both the big and small screens. His directorial film catalog includes a diverse line-up of films ranging in genre, such as the black comedy Very Bad Things (1998), action comedy The Rundown (2003), sports drama Friday Night Lights (2004), action thriller The Kingdom (2007), and the military science fiction war film Battleship (2012) among others. In addition to his direction, Berg has appeared in an array of acting roles in films including Never on Tuesday (1989), Shocker (1989), The Last Seduction (1994), The Great White Hype (1996), Cop Land (1997), Corky Romano (2001), Collateral (2004), Smokin' Aces (2006), and Lions for Lambs (2007). Protecting a resounding presence in television, Berg both created and developed well-received series such as Wonderland (2000) and Friday Night Lights (2006–2011), the latter of which earned him two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Berg is commonly recognized for his stint as Dr. Billy Kronk on the CBS medical drama Chicago Hope (1995–1999). Aside from his prosperous career in the entertainment industry, Berg has overcome significant personal challenges, sparking discourse on topics such as mental health and advocacy for war veterans. Notably, Berg also introduced the opening animation sequence for ESPN's Monday Night Football.
