Nancy Jane Meyers (born December 8, 1949) is a prominent American filmmaker who has penned, produced, and directed several acclaimed and commercially successful films. Best known for garnering an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Private Benjamin (1980), she has had a significant impact on the film industry. Her film Baby Boom (1987) earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Throughout her career, she has co-written films such as Father of the Bride series, and written and directed popular films like The Parent Trap (1998), What Women Want (2000), Something's Gotta Give (2003), The Holiday (2006), It's Complicated (2009), and The Intern (2015). Meyers was married to filmmaker Charles Shyer and they had two children together, including filmmaker Hallie Meyers-Shyer. She was born in Philadelphia, to Irving Meyers, an executive of a voting machines manufacturer, and Patricia Meyers, an interior designer. Meyers was raised in a Jewish household and became interested in theater at 12. She was influenced by Mike Nichols' film The Graduate in 1967 and chose to pursue a career in screenwriting. One of the unique aspects of Meyers' work is her meticulous attention to aesthetic details. Often featuring affluent and successful women as protagonists, her films cast a critical view on their male counterparts from the women's perspective.
