The story unfolds twenty-five years after the events of the original film, reintroducing us to Sharon Ferris (formerly McKendrick), who now finds herself divorced and navigating the challenges of single motherhood in sunny Tampa, Florida. Her teenage daughter, Nikki, is decidedly less than thrilled about their upcoming relocation to the bustling metropolis of New York City, particularly dreading the move to an all-girls school come fall. During her summer school stint, Nikki finds herself at odds with the feisty Jessica Dintruff but fortunately strikes a friendship with the more affable Mary Grand. Mary’s father, Bill Grand, has been navigating life as a widower for four long years.
