What happens in It's Complicated from start to finish, spoilers included, with a timeline of 14 key events. The opening is below; the full summary is a 2-minute read.
Spoilers ahead
It’s Complicated follows Jake (Alec Baldwin), a lawyer who is divorced from Jane (Meryl Streep), but still harbors feelings for her. Despite being remarried to a much younger woman, Agness (portrayed by Lake Bell), and having a son, Pedro (Emjay Anthony), Jake finds himself reminiscing about Jane, who owns a bakery.
The narrative begins with a picturesque neighborhood scene accompanied by the ocean’s calming waves. At a gathering to celebrate his friends’ anniversary, Jake makes a toast, but his attention is drawn to Jane, who seems taken aback by Agness’s appearance. A lingering glance at Jane signifies Jake’s unresolved affection, even after ten years apart.
