Monte Markham: Movies & Box Office

Monte Markham (born June 21, 1935) is an American actor who has made his mark in films, television series, and on Broadway. Born and raised in Manatee County, Florida, he is one of four sons of Millie Content (née Willbur) and Jesse Edward Markham Sr., who was a merchant. He started his education at Palm Beach State College and later graduated from the University of Georgia, specializing with a master's degree in theater. Before his acting career took off, Markham served 10 years as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. He made his television debut in the 1967–1968 ABC sitcom The Second Hundred Years playing the dual roles of Luke and Ken Carpenter. Markham also featured in the original Hawaii Five-O and starred in the TV series Mr. Deeds Goes to Town based on the 1936 movie of the same name. He made quite an impact in the The New Perry Mason (1973–1974), The Six Million Dollar Man, The Golden Girls, and Baywatch. Aside from acting, Markham also ventured into direction and production, even assuming the role of a narrator in some documentary series that appeared on the History Channel in the mid to late 1990s. His journey onto the stage began at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the summer of 1961, and he made his Broadway debut in 1973 in Irene, which earned him the Theatre World Award. His film repertoire includes Hour of the Gun, Guns of the Magnificent Seven, Midway, Airport '77, and We Are Still Here.
