Lori Petty is an acclaimed American actress, director, and screenwriter. Beginning her career in 1984, she gradually carved a niche for herself in the entertainment industry. She debuted on the big screen in the 1990 comedy film Cadillac Man, followed by significant roles in prominent films such as Point Break (1991), A League of Their Own (1992), Free Willy (1993), In the Army Now (1994), The Glass Shield (1994) and the title role in Tank Girl (1995). Besides acting, Petty also ventured into television and starred in the short-lived Fox sitcom, Lush Life in 1996, while participating in numerous independent movies in her later career. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to a Pentecostal minister, Petty had a tumultuous childhood that later influenced her directorial debut film, The Poker House. She began her professional career as a graphic designer before switching to acting. Her acting debut on television came in 1985, when she played a terrorist named Skunk on the ABC soap opera All My Children. She subsequently made guest appearances on multiple TV series and starred in television films. From 2014, she appeared on the Netflix comedy-drama series, Orange Is the New Black and had a recurring character in its several seasons. Petty also made a mark in the advertising world, starring in commercials and providing voiceovers for Warner Bros. animated series and video games.
