Karl Markovics: Movies & Box Office

Karl Markovics, an esteemed Austrian actor and film director, was born on 29th August 1963 in Vienna, Austria. From his early years, he aspired to be a stage actor and, despite failing to pass the entry exam for the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar, he began performing at the Serapions Theater in Vienna. Later, in 1987, he started working with the Wiener Ensemble and got his first part in the movie "Hund und Katz" in 1991.

Markovics gained recognition for his striking roles in several TV and theater productions. This includes his performances in acclaimed Austrian shows like "Inspector Rex", the spin-off series "Stockinger", and others like "Hinterholz 8", "Late Show", "Geboren in Absurdistan", and "Komm, süßer Tod." His talent spans multiple genres; be it far-right terrorist Franz Fuchs in the 2007 TV film Franz Fuchs - Ein Patriot, or portraying Wolf in the 2014 comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. His major accolade came from acting as Salomon Sorowitsch in Stefan Ruzowitzky's 2007 film The Counterfeiters, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, solidifying his position as a prominent actor on a global scale. Beyond acting, Markovics directed his first play in 2005 and ventured into opera production in 2010 with Counterfeiters-director Ruzowitzky's Der Freischütz.
