Who Is Karina Bell?
Karina Bell was born in Hellerup, Denmark in 1898. Credited on films since 1920, as an actor. The background, training and the roles that shaped the career.
Karina Bell, born Karen Gudrun Louise Hansen on 26 September 1898 in Hellerup, Denmark, was a distinguished Danish actress whose career spanned the silent film era and the early sound period of European cinema. She was the daughter of Anette Marie Hansen (1865–1928) and Hans Peter Hansen (1856–1932), who worked at the Tuborg Brewery, and she grew up in a respectable middle-class Danish household. In her formative years, she attended Hellerup Kommuneskole and trained at Emilie Valbom's ballet school before studying under the renowned Danish drama teacher Emma Gad, who bestowed upon her the evocative stage name Karina Bell. She made her theatrical debut in 1919 at Det Ny Teater in the title role of "Tornerose," and that same year began working alongside the legendary Danish filmmaker Carl Theodor Dreyer on Leaves from Satan's Book, which premiered in 1921. Bell became a frequent collaborator of director A. W. Sandberg, appearing in numerous productions including David Copperfield (1922), Little Dorrit (1924), The Clown (1926), The Last Night (1928), and 5 raske piger (1933). Throughout her career, she was credited in at least 21 Danish, German, and Swedish films, establishing herself as a versatile and recognizable performer in Scandinavian cinema of the interwar years. Beyond her work in film, she also performed in theatrical productions such as Frøken Kirkemus at Betty Nansen Teatret. On 26 May 1934, she married Knud Parkov (1894–1949), the director of Wiibroes Bryggeri in Helsingør, after which she retired from acting to devote herself to her family and business interests. Following her husband's death on 20 January 1949, she assumed a position on the board of Wiibroes Brewery, eventually becoming its director just as her husband had been. She passed away on 5 June 1979 in Helsingør at the age of eighty, and she is buried beside her husband at Ordrup Cemetery.
