Jon Finch was an esteemed English stage and film actor who earned recognition for his roles in various Shakespearean plays. Born as John Nicholas Finch, his acting skills were appreciated by notable directors like Roman Polanski and Alfred Hitchcock. His acting career took a jumpstart in the year 1970, and he continued to captivate audiences with his performances until 2005. He was prominently known for his roles in Macbeth (1971) by Roman Polanski and Frenzy (1972) by Alfred Hitchcock. He was born in Caterham, Surrey and had a fulfilling upbringing that eventually led him towards acting. Finch got his education from an independent school in Caterham. Despite having an opportunity to study at London School of Economics after school, he decided to replace the same with his passion for acting. During his early acting days, Finch was also part of The Parachute regiment for his National service and later joined SAS Reserve Regiment. He eventually quit the military as his acting career grew more demanding. His television debut includes roles in series like Crossroads, The Fellows, and ITV Playhouse. Finch garnered fame with the BBC science fiction series Counterstrike (1969). He also marked his presence in Hammer Films with The Vampire Lovers (1970) and The Horror of Frankenstein (1970). His performance in Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) was also significant. His roles later extended to films like Death On The Nile (1978), La Sabina (1979) and Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven (2005). Finch was found dead in his flat in Hastings, East Sussex, on 28 December 2012 and his death was a tragic loss for the film industry.
